29 Best Cooling Sheets for Hot Sleepers Who Want Sweat-Free Nights

The sweltering heat of summer can turn your bed into an uncomfortable sauna, ruining the quality of your sleep. If you dread getting into bed at night, you’re not alone. Many people experience hot, restless nights as the temperature rises, and as sleep experts will tell you, warmer isn’t better. If you’ve ever wondered how to make your bed more comfortable, you’re in the right place. In this article, we’ll explore the best cooling sheets for hot sleepers so that you can enjoy calm, sweat-free sleep all night long, waking up feeling rested, refreshed, and comfortable, even in warm conditions.

In addition to cooling sheets, YumeRest’s cloud-like fluffy duvets can help you achieve your goals, too. These cozy comforters promote airflow and help regulate your body temperature as you sleep, so you stay cool and comfortable through the night.

What are Cooling Sheets? Understanding Their Definition and Benefits

Cooling sheets help regulate body temperature during sleep, reducing night sweats and hot flashes. They are breathable, wick away moisture, and promote airflow to keep sleepers comfortable throughout the night. These sheets are available in various materials, including cotton, bamboo, linen, Tencel, and some synthetic fabrics.

The term cooling (and its variations) is widely used in marketing, which can be confusing. Sometimes it refers to sheets made from alternatives to cotton, like bamboo rayon or lyocell; other times, it simply describes regular cotton sheets. Often, the term highlights an inherent characteristic of the fabric rather than a special cooling function.

Evaluating Cooling Sheets: Lab Claims vs. Real-Life Comfort

It’s important to note that there are no sheets that cool you like an ice pack or air conditioner. When brands advertise cooling fabrics, they typically refer to breathable materials that feel cool to the touch for a moment. Breathable fabrics, such as linen and cotton, allow sweat to evaporate more easily, helping you stay cool and comfortable.

Some companies incorporate advanced technologies to enhance the cooling performance of basic fabrics, such as cotton. These may include coatings applied after production or special yarns woven into the fabric.

Such technologies are often proprietary, making it difficult to verify claims outside of controlled lab tests.

  • The actual test is how the sheets feel in everyday use.

  • The best fabrics for hot sleepers are cotton percale, linen, and

  • Tencel/lyocell, especially when combined with added cooling technologies.

Is There a Difference Between Cooling Sheets and Regular Sheets?

Cooling sheets differ from regular sheets in a few key ways. They are made from breathable materials that promote airflow and help regulate temperature.

Unlike traditional cotton sheets that trap heat and moisture, creating a warm, humid environment, cooling sheets allow heat to escape so it doesn’t build up in your bedding.

How Cooling Sheets Improve Sleep Quality

Cooling sheets also tend to feel smoother and more comfortable than regular sheets. This is especially true if you sleep hot and tend to sweat during the night. Cooling sheets wick moisture away from your body and help you maintain a drier sleep environment.

Several varieties of cooling sheets even have special technologies designed to enhance their performance. These distinctions can help create a more restful sleep experience for individuals who tend to sleep hot.

Are Bamboo Sheets Cooling?

Bamboo sheets don’t really exist. While many brands may sell sheets labeled as bamboo fabric, the material doesn't contain any bamboo. It's actually rayon, a regenerated cellulose fiber that utilizes wood pulp from bamboo. It is dissolved in chemicals to the point that it no longer exists in the final fabric.

The Federal Trade Commission has sued some companies for false bamboo labeling, as the brand needs to list the manufactured name for rayon fibers.

Types of rayon include:

These rayon are known for being moisture-wicking and feeling silky and cool to the touch, ideal for cooling sheets. Be wary of any sheet sets with false “bamboo” labeling, as the brand is greenwashing and misleading its consumers. Opt for Tencel, lyocell, viscose, or modal fabrics with proper fiber content labeling and excellent cooling performance.

Know Before You Buy: Bamboo vs. Rayon Explained

Note that these sheets are made of rayon, which is derived from bamboo, meaning the fabric is made by dissolving bamboo wood pulp in chemicals, resulting in a final product that contains no bamboo, and, hence, isn't a natural material.

Pros
  • Silky feel

  • 27 color options

  • Pill-resistant material

Cons
  • Some misleading bamboo claims

5. L.L.Bean 280-Thread-Count Pima Cotton Percale Sheet Set

  • King, and California King

Pocket depth: 15 in.

Percale sheets are known for their crisp, breathable feel, and this set from L.L.Bean delivers just that, made from 100% long-staple Pima cotton for a softer, more durable finish. Available in nine colours, it offers excellent value for high-quality cotton bedding.

In our Lab tests, the fabric proved strong and pill-resistant. While percale is typically prone to wrinkling, this set was noticeably less creased than others we’ve tested, though it doesn’t feel as smooth as some of the other cooling options featured.

Lab-Tested Durability Meets Everyday Comfort

One tester described the sheets as “like quality hotel sheets,” adding, “They feel slightly cool to the touch, which I like”, a promising pick for hot or sweaty sleepers.

Pros
  • Breathable weave

  • Pill-resistant and strong in Lab tests

  • Supple Pima cotton

Cons
  • Less smooth than other cooling sheet sets featured

6. The Citizenry Stonewashed Linen Sheet Set

Material: 100% French flax linen

Sizes:

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • Cal King

Pocket depth: 15 in.

Linen sheets are among the most breathable and airy options available. While linen typically isn’t as smooth as cotton, this set from The Citizenry stood out in our blind touch test as the softest linen sheets we reviewed. Available in 14 chic colours and three understated patterns, they offer a naturally lived-in look that only gets better with time.

Testers praised the softness, especially compared to other linen sets, and noted that the fabric became even softer after each wash. “I loved the feel of the sheets; they’re soft yet substantial and have a very natural texture,” said one tester. Another added, “They felt airy and light during hot summer nights,” while also appreciating their “rumpled, relaxed” appearance.

Washed-In Softness, Tested Durability

In Lab testing, these sheets performed well in terms of durability, although some testers reported more lint shedding in the dryer compared to other sets.

Pros
  • Soft feel compared to other linen sheets

  • Relaxed, chic appearance

  • Breathable and airy, according to testers

Cons
  • Some testers noted that they shed lint when drying

Pocket depth: 16 in.

Smooth and silky to the touch, these sheets from West Elm are crafted from 100% Tencel, a breathable, moisture-wicking fabric made from sustainably sourced wood pulp. A recent Good Housekeeping Bedding Award winner, this set is available in 11 colours and fits mattresses up to 16 inches deep. Note that it’s not offered in Twin size.

Testers repeatedly praised these sheets for their softness, calling them the most luxurious they’d ever slept on. Despite the smooth finish, the fabric stayed securely in place without slipping. In Lab testing, the sheets excelled at wicking moisture and showed no signs of pilling, something most other sets couldn’t claim.

High Praise for Feel, Fit, and Fabric Performance

“I liked the comfort of these sheets and how they seemed to wick sweat away from my body,” said one tester. “The silkiness made my bed feel far more lush.” A few testers noted that the fabric was less opaque than expected, but overall feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

  • California King

  • Split California King

  • FlexTop California King

Pocket depth: 15 in.

The silky smoothness of sateen can sometimes feel slippery, like a Slip ’N Slide, especially if you tend to sweat through the night. SleepNumber’s True Temp Sheet Set features 37.5 technology that actively absorbs and releases heat, helping prevent night sweats so you can enjoy sateen’s luxurious feel without overheating.

In Lab testing, these sheets demonstrated strong durability and moderate resistance to pilling, though they exhibited slight shrinkage after laundering. Making your bed is simpler thanks to convenient labels indicating the short and long sides of the fitted sheet.

True Temp Sheet Set: Cooling Comfort with Practical Features

One tester described the fabric as soft but slightly crisp, a texture well suited to summer. The sheets effectively wick moisture during our evaluations.

Pros
  • 37.5 cooling technology

  • Luxe-feeling sateen

  • Labels for easy bed making

Cons
  • Shrunk a bit after laundering

9. Sheets & Giggles 100% Eucalyptus Lyocell Sheet Set

Material: 100% lyocell

Sizes:

  • Twin

  • Twin XL

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California King

  • Split King

Pocket depth: 20 in.

Looking for ultra-soft sheets? This set from Sheets & Giggles delivers with silky smooth lyocell fabric that feels luxuriously soft. Designed to fit mattresses up to 20 inches deep, including those with toppers, the fitted sheet features a stretchy elastic edge to keep it securely in place, though it may be too tall for thinner mattresses.

Our textile experts were impressed with its strong performance in Lab tests, noting excellent durability, moisture management, and outstanding softness. The set earned a perfect score for pilling resistance, showing no signs of wear after repeated testing.

User Experience and Fit: Comfort, Moisture Control, and Deep Pocket Design

Testers loved the silky smooth texture and effective moisture-wicking properties. One tester noted, “The generous sizing accommodated my tall mattress and topper perfectly—something I often struggle with using other sheets.”

Pros
  • Silky smooth lyocell fabric

  • Excellent durability score

  • Deep pocket

Cons
  • The 20-inch pocket depth may be too tall for thinner mattresses

10. Sijo TempTune Cotton Sheet Set

Material: 80% cotton and 20% CLIMA fiber (nylon/recycled polyester/Tencel)

Sizes:

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California King

Pocket depth: 16 in.

These sheets from Sijo blend the natural comfort of cotton with the cooling performance of the brand’s proprietary CLIMA fiber, a mix of:

  • Nylon

  • Recycled polyester

  • Tencel

Because they contain 80% cotton, these sheets are less effective at moisture-wicking than some others, as cotton tends to absorb fluid and takes longer to dry. If you prioritise the feel of cotton, the added cooling benefits still offer noticeable relief.

Durability and Comfort: Luxurious Softness Meets Strong Fabric Performance

The set excelled in Lab testing, thanks to its strong fabric that showed minimal shrinkage and pilling. Testers consistently gave high marks for softness and comfort, with many impressed by the luxurious feel.

“These sheets are luxuriously soft,” one tester remarked. “The first night we used them, they immediately reminded us of the sheets in high-end hotels.” Several testers even planned to purchase a second set.

Pros
  • Familiar cotton feel

  • Excellent fabric strength

  • High scores from testers for softness

Cons
  • Not as moisture-wicking in Lab evaluations

11. Linenwalas Tencel Lyocell Bed Sheets

Pocket: 16 in.

Size Range:

  • Twin

  • Twin XL

  • Full

  • Queen

  • Short queen

  • King

  • California king

  • Split king

Marketed as “cooling,” “soft,” and “durable,” the Linenwalas Eucalyptus Tencel Sheet Set had high expectations to meet, and after six months of use, it delivered. Made from Tencel lyocell, the sheets feel silky without being slippery, a rare and welcome combination. They were cool to the touch the moment we got into bed, and even after several minutes, the fabric around us remained noticeably cool. That sensation lasted throughout the night, keeping us consistently comfortable.

The fit was spot-on, with dimensions that matched the brand’s claims, and the sheets washed well, requiring no special care. Months later, they remain just as soft as day one, with no signs of pilling or wear. For their exceptional cooling performance, high-quality construction, and affordable price point, this set offers outstanding value.

12. Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set

Material: Viscose from bamboo

Pocket: 20 in.

Size Range:

  • Twin

  • Twin XL

  • Full

  • Queen

  • Split king

  • King

Cozy Earth’s Bamboo Sheets are heavily advertised on social media as a “cooling” option, and initially, they lived up to the hype. The viscose rayon fabric felt similar to that of relaxed loungewear, soft and drapey, and after one wash, they were the coolest sheets we tested in the first round.

Performance declined noticeably over time. After five washes, the sheets became thinner, rougher, and significantly less breathable. They also shrank more than any other set we tested: after the final wash, the fitted sheet was difficult to stretch over a 10-inch mattress.

Premium Price With Mixed Durability Results

Cozy Earth offers 13 colour options, and while the fitted sheet is designed to accommodate mattresses up to 20 inches deep, this didn’t help once shrinkage occurred. The flat sheet, on the other hand, remained long and retained its shape. The set arrives with a noticeable sheen, which fades after washing.

These are the most expensive sheets we tested, but they do come with a:

  • 100-night sleep trial

  • Free returns

  • 10-year warranty covering:

    • Pilling

    • Tears

    • Manufacturing defects

13. Pottery Barn Belgian Flax Linen Sheet Set

Material: Belgian flax linen

Pocket: 16 in.

Size Range:

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California king

This linen sheet set is a standout for hot sleepers. During a stretch without air conditioning, it helped regulate body temperature surprisingly well, keeping us cool through summer nights and cosy during winter. Over time, it became our go-to bedding: we’d put it straight back on the bed after every wash. That kind of loyalty says a lot.

The sheets also proved incredibly durable, holding up beautifully over six months, even with regular use and the occasional dog on the bed. There were no:

  • Rips

  • Frays

  • Signs of fading

Surprisingly Soft Linen That Gets Better Over Time

Though flax linen is often rough at first, this set felt buttery from the start and softened further after a few washes. The top sheet is generously sized, ideal for restless sleepers, and the fitted sheet is easy to secure, thanks to a bit of extra give.

Now noticeably softer, the sheets remain comfortable year-round. Certified Fair Trade and Oeko-Tex, they're both pet-proof and planet-friendly.

14. THXSILK Luxury Mulberry Silk Bed Sheets Set

Material: Mulberry silk

Pocket: 16 in.

Size Range:

  • Twin

  • Twin XL

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California king

  • Split king

You’ve heard about the benefits of silk pillowcases, silk bedsheets are the same, just with a larger surface area. Made of smooth mulberry silk, this set was not only cooling but also incredibly soft on our skin and hair, with no friction or tugging. We never woke up with a bedhead.

In the winter, when we slept with the heat on, these sheets kept us cool overnight and noticeably reduced sweat. While the fit runs a bit large, the sheets generally stay in place and wash well, with no pilling or snags. They also feel plenty luxurious but without the hefty price tag. We’re planning to keep using this throughout the year.

15. Sleep Philosophy Smart Cool Microfiber Sheet Set

Thread Count: Not listed

Fabric Composition: 80 percent polyester, 20 percent coolmax microfiber

Sheet Size:

  • Twin

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California king

If you're a hot sleeper on a budget, this sheet set from Sleep Philosophy is a standout. Lightweight and airy, the fabric felt cool to the touch, and stayed that way even after extended use. Made from a polyester and microfiber blend, it also performed exceptionally well in our moisture management tests thanks to its absorbent structure.

The sheets are notably soft, offering a comfortable sleep surface. We found that rougher fabrics, such as flannel pyjamas, could cause some pulling, so it’s worth being mindful of what you wear to bed.

Best Budget Cooling Sheets for Short-Term Use

As expected for the price, these sheets don’t hold up as well in the wash as higher-end options. After two months of regular use, they began to pill slightly and felt somewhat thinner. Still, at this price point, they remain a substantial value. The fitted sheet accommodates mattresses up to 17 inches deep and stayed securely in place throughout testing.

What We Like
  • Excels at moisture management

  • Stayed cool throughout usage

  • Soft to the touch

What We Don't Like
  • Not as durable as other choices

16. Sleep Zone Microfiber Bed Set

Thread Count: 1800

Fabric Composition: Microfiber

Sheet Size:

  • Twin

  • Twin XL

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California king

  • Split king

Of all the sheets we tested, Sleep Zone’s Super Soft Bed Sheets stood out for stain resistance. Marks came out easily in a standard wash cycle, and the fabric showed no signs of pilling or thinning afterward.

Cool to the touch and practical at wicking away moisture, these sheets are a strong option for those who experience night sweats. The fabric is buttery-soft with a fluid drape, more relaxed and lightweight than traditional cotton, which can often feel rigid.

Lightweight Feel, Lower Durability

That said, the sheets are pretty thin. In our abrasion tests, a small hole developed more quickly than we observed with other sets. While they may not be the most durable option, their affordable price and performance make them a worthwhile choice for short-term or seasonal use.

What We Like
  • Breathable and lightweight

  • Moisture-wicking

  • Buttery-soft to the touch

What We Don’t Like
  • On the thinner side

17. Lacoste Percale Sheet Set

Thread Count: 200

Fabric Composition: Cotton percale

Sheet Size:

  • Twin

  • Twin XL

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California king

Thanks to cotton’s natural breathability, sheets made from this fabric are often a strong choice for hot sleepers. These percale sheets from Lacoste stood out for their lightweight yet durable construction, offering a substantial feel without being overly stiff.

While the fitted sheet’s seams were less secure than ideal, resulting in some excess fabric that kept it from fitting snugly, it nevertheless stayed in place during use. Keep in mind that these sheets benefit from an initial wash, as the percale weave starts off somewhat stiff before softening to peak comfort.

Strong Durability and Effective Stain Resistance with a Classic Percale Feel

In stain removal tests, the sheets performed well with common stains like coffee and oil, though makeup stains were more stubborn. Durability was excellent overall, with no noticeable wear after repeated abrasion testing.

What We Like
  • Substantial feel without being stiff

  • Breathable and moisture-wicking

  • Very durable

What We Don't Like
  • Not as cooling as other choices

18. Bampure Organic Bamboo Sheets

Thread Count: 1800

Fabric Composition: Viscose from bamboo

Sheet Size:

  • Twin

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California king

Bampure’s Organic Bamboo Sheets combine bamboo’s natural cooling properties with a silky smooth texture and a subtle sheen. Compared to other sheet sets, they resist wrinkling better and become even softer after washing. The fitted sheet’s elastic held securely on our mattress, providing a snug fit that many other sets lack.

Lightweight and breathable, these sheets enhance the cooling effect, making them ideal for hot summer nights while remaining comfortable in milder temperatures. After extended use, they maintained their soft, silky feel and appearance, standing up well to repeated washing.

A Wrinkle-Resistant Sateen Alternative with Stylish Durability

If you’re tired of wrinkled cotton or linen, this sateen-weave set offers a high-quality alternative, featuring double-stitched seams and envelope-style pillowcases. Available in a range of colors, including several neutral options, they provide both style and durability.

What We Like
  • Good for multiple seasons

  • Silky-smooth texture

  • Minimal wrinkling

What We Don't Like
  • Colors may be too vibrant for some

19. Olive + Crate Eucalyptus Sheet Set

Thread Count: 300

Fabric Composition: Tencel

Sheet Size:

  • Twin XL

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California king

Olive + Crate’s Eucalyptus Sheet Set impresses with its naturally soft, moisture-wicking fabric and high-quality construction. The Tencel material delivers a cool, smooth texture that helped us feel comfortably lowered in body temperature while lying beneath it.

The sheets offer a notably silky feel, making them ideal for those who favour softness over the traditional cotton texture. If you prefer the familiar touch of cotton, this set may not be the best fit. We also appreciated the 12 colour options available and the deep pockets, which accommodate mattresses up to 18 inches thick.

Fit, Care, and Durability: Handling Shrinkage and Wear

While the sheets did shrink slightly after washing, they still fit our bed and pillows well. Given the premium price, we would have liked fitted sheets to include labels indicating the sides or top to ease bed-making after laundering.

One drawback was that the pillowcase showed fraying along the side seams after just three months of use. To prolong the lifespan of these eucalyptus sheets, we recommend carefully following the care instructions, as they do not tolerate warm washes well.

What We Like
  • 12 excellent color options

  • Silky feel

  • Deep pockets

What We Don't Like
  • Pillowcase frayed after three months

  • Mild shrinkage

20. Hush Iced Cooling Sheet Set

Thread Count: 500

Fabric Composition: Organic bamboo viscose

Sheet Size:

  • Twin

  • Twin XL

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

Made from organic bamboo viscose, the Hush Iced Cooling Sheet Set is exceptionally soft and comfortable. The smooth fabric feels lightweight and drapes nicely, without the slippery quality found in some bamboo, eucalyptus, or microfiber sheets we’ve tested.

These sheets performed exceptionally well in moisture management tests, quickly absorbing and evenly dispersing water droplets. We also sent them to a hot sleeper who experienced night sweats and was impressed by how rapidly they dried.

Durability and Care: Softening Texture with Minor Shrinkage

After two months of use, the sheets have held up well with no visible wear. The texture has softened and become slightly fuzzier, losing some of the initial sheen, which we find adds to their cozy feel.

We noticed some ongoing shrinkage despite using a low-heat drying cycle. If you have an extra-deep mattress, we recommend air-drying these sheets to avoid fit issues.

What We Like
  • Moisture-wicking

  • Lightweight and soft

  • Breathable

What We Don’t Like
  • Some shrinkage

21. Brooklinen Classic Percale Core Sheet Set (Queen)

Sizes:

  • Twin, Twin XL

  • Full

  • Queen

  • King

  • California king

These sheets excel not only in drying quickly but also in softness, thanks to their long-staple cotton and percale weave construction. With a 270-thread count, they strikes a pleasing balance, lightweight and breathable while maintaining a smooth, soft texture.

Senior mattress and sleep editor Bridget Chapman agrees: “These sheets are ideal for anyone seeking the classic percale feel. They’re crisp, lightweight, and soft, with more structure than the bamboo sheets on our list, yet still breathable and not prone to trapping body heat.” She also appreciated the practical “long” and “short” side labels, which make bed-making straightforward.

Best For

  • Those who prefer the traditional percale sheet feel

  • People seeking a balance between crispness and softness

  • You want a sheet with a silky, slippery texture

22.  Quince Bamboo Sheet Set (Queen)

Material: 100% viscose from organic bamboo | Weave: Sateen | Thread count: 300 | Sizes: Twin, full, queen, king, California king | Colors: 11 total, including Clay and Charcoal | Return window: 365 days

The Quince Bamboo Sheet Set scores exceptionally high for its cooling performance and becomes even more appealing considering its very reasonable price. It also tops our list of the best bamboo sheets. Like the Puffy Signature and Cozy Earth Bamboo sets, the Quince sheets feature a sateen weave that imparts a subtle sheen. However, unlike those two, they are crafted from 100% viscose derived from organic bamboo, making them naturally hypoallergenic and well-suited for sleepers with allergies or sensitive skin.

Softness and Breathability: Comfort That Lasts Through Multiple Washes

Our tester praised their smooth texture and impressive cooling ability. Sleep expert Bridget Chapman, who has extensive experience with these sheets, concurs: “These sheets have a silky-soft feel that’s wonderfully comforting.

I also appreciate how they maintain their softness after multiple washes.” While not quite as lightweight as the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheets, their outstanding breathability more than compensates. “I’ve slept comfortably on them through many hot nights,” Chapman adds.

Best For
  • Those who want the feel of a traditional sheet
People who want a balance of crispness and softness

  • You’re looking for a sheet with a slippery, smooth feel

23. Coyuchi Organic Crinkled Percale Sheet Set - Queen

Material: Organic cotton percale

Here’s another organic percale option for sleepers who appreciate the weave but prefer a more lived-in feel. Made from crinkled percale finished with a plant-based softener, it offers a subtle texture that Strategist senior editor Simone Kitchens describes as “a nice progression from linen.”

As a self-described hot sleeper, Kitchens calls these the lightest sheets she’s ever used. “They’re lighter and thinner than the Quince sheets, but not flimsy,” she explains, allowing for excellent airflow. Ideal for summer, they’re also suitable year-round for those who tend to sweat regardless of the season.

24. Silk & Snow Egyptian-Cotton Bedsheets - Queen

Material: Long-staple Egyptian cotton sateen, 300 thread count

These sheets are crafted from 100% certified long-staple Egyptian cotton, renowned for its breathability, durability, and softness, and feature a sateen weave. Sateen’s three-over-one weave is looser than percale’s, giving it a silkier drape while remaining slightly denser. Thanks to the qualities of Egyptian cotton, this Silk & Snow set is an excellent choice for sleepers who prefer sateen but still want bedding that feels cool.

In testing, I found these sheets to be lighter than many other Egyptian cotton sateen options, with a higher sheen, yet equally soft and silky. Tom Ryan, head of product testing at Sleep Foundation, also praises their construction and feel. “They’re lightweight and breathable,” he says, “and the durable Egyptian cotton ensures they should withstand everyday use for several years.”

25. Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus Lyocell Sheet Set (Queen)

Price: $190
Material: Eucalyptus lyocell

Eucalyptus, also known as lyocell, is another naturally cooling fiber to consider when choosing sheets. According to Oks, it “generally has some natural temperature-regulating properties.” While the cooling effects of eucalyptus sheets haven’t been scientifically confirmed, their breathability makes them feel exceptionally comfortable against the skin, especially for those who sweat at night.

Oks mentions that many of her patients favour the brand Sheets & Giggles, which specialises in eucalyptus bedding. (For those interested in eucalyptus-based comforters, former Strategist writer Lori Keong described sleeping under Buffy’s comforter as being cocooned in a cold compress.)

26. Buffy Breeze Sheet Set - Queen

Lyocell, derived from eucalyptus and other wood pulp, is another naturally cooling fibre worth considering. As Oks explains, it “generally has some natural temperature-regulating properties.” While the cooling effects haven’t been clinically proven, she points to its excellent breathability as a reason it feels “so nice on somebody’s skin when they’re sweating at night.”

Buffy’s Breeze sheets, made from lyocell, reminded me of cotton sateen in their smooth, silky texture. They’re exceptionally soft, almost comparable to my favourite matte sateen set from Morrow, and offer a lightweight, cool-to-the-touch feel with a lovely drape. Compared to the Quince bamboo sheets I also tested, the Breeze set feels slightly more substantial and less slippery, making them a great option for those who want a breathable sheet with a texture closer to cotton.

From the Nolah mattress brand, the Nolah Tencel Sateen Sheet Set is a reasonably priced, Oeko-Tex certified option made from 100% Tencel Lyocell and backed by a one-year warranty.

It’s always great when mattress brands deliver high-quality bedding, and that’s exactly what Nolah does here. These sheets have a smooth, slightly satin-like texture thanks to the Tencel Lyocell, and they feel soft and breathable right out of the box.

While the fitted sheet doesn’t have top or bottom labels, it was still easy to put on. The deep pockets fit mattresses up to 17 inches tall, with a bit of extra fabric that didn’t affect sleep. Throughout testing, these sheets kept things cool by wicking away moisture and allowing for steady airflow.

Durable, Eco-Friendly Sheets at a Great Value

Even after several washes, the fabric held up well with no noticeable wear. Given the durability, cooling performance, and accessible price point, they’re a great value, especially with the added peace of mind from the one-year warranty. Just note that they’re only available in three neutral colors and must be purchased as a full set.

I expected the Original PeachSkin Sheets to feel soft since they’re made of microfiber—but I was still surprised by their creamy, almost buttery texture. According to PeachSkin, their proprietary "athletic-grade poly-fiber" is moisture-wicking and more breathable than cotton.

While I wouldn’t go as far as saying they’re cooler than cotton, these sheets did an impressive job of keeping me comfortable throughout the night. I never felt overheated, which is notable given that they’re one of the more affordable options on this list and carry the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification.

Versatile Fit and User-Friendly Design

These sheets are also hypoallergenic, antimicrobial, and available in 33 colors, including some hard-to-find specialty sizes. The deep pockets fit mattresses up to 22 inches thick, and I appreciated the "side" label on the fitted sheet, which made making the bed a bit easier.

Still, with a snug fit and a rare lifetime warranty, they’re a standout option for budget-conscious shoppers.

What to Look for in the Best Cooling Sheets

Choose the Right Material For Cooling Sheets

Finding the proper cooling sheets starts with choosing the right materials. While many fabrics are marketed as cooling, not all perform equally. Natural fibres like cotton, bamboo, Tencel lyocell, and linen are known for their breathability and moisture-wicking abilities. “Bamboo sheets, for example, have tiny pores that promote airflow and help release heat,” says Dr. Daniel Gartenberg, Ph.D., Sleep Health Advisor at CPAP.com.

Microfiber is another budget-friendly option that offers decent temperature regulation. As brands continue to innovate, a variety of materials may provide cooling benefits, but some are more effective than others.

Thread Count and Weave Matter

Breathability and temperature regulation largely depend on the sheet’s material, as well as its thread count and weave. “The lower the thread count, the cooler you’ll feel at night,” says Dr. Daniel Gartenberg. “Lower thread counts typically have a looser weave, which makes them more breathable.” The weave style also plays a key role. “Percale is the best weave method for cooling sheets,” Gartenberg adds. “Its one-over, one-under pattern creates a crisp, lightweight feel that promotes airflow.”

Don’t Forget About Size and Color Options

Many popular sheet sets are limited to three or four color options. The more affordable the sheet set, the more color options are available. White, gray, tan, and cream are the most common sheet color options, so if you're looking for specific sheet colors beyond that, you're a bit limited in options.

Of course, you'll need to see if the sheet sets come in the mattress size you need and have a deep enough pocket to fit over your mattress height. It's also helpful when sheets are sold with the option to purchase with or without the top sheet, according to your preferences, or individual pieces.

Pay Attention to Pocket Depth

While pocket depth doesn’t affect a sheet set’s cooling capabilities, it does ensure that the sheets will actually fit your bed. A sheet’s pocket depth is the maximum mattress height it can accommodate.

You’ll want to give yourself at least 2 inches of extra room so the corners don’t slide up. For example, if your mattress is 14 inches deep, you’ll want sheets with a pocket depth of at least 16 inches. To determine the pocket depth you need, measure your mattress from top to bottom, including any mattress toppers and pads.

Look for Specific Cooling Technologies

Specific cooling technologies, such as Outlast or 37.5 store and release heat throughout the night, so your body stays at a stable temperature. To test how moisture-wicking fabric is (a.k.a. how well the sheets will dissipate sweat to keep you at a more consistent body temperature), you can place a drop of water on it.

The water should immediately spread out and dry quickly. Avoid fabrics where the water beads. They'll feel sweaty.

Certifications Matter

Whether you have allergies or just want to ensure that the product you're sleeping with doesn't contain harmful substances, it's necessary to determine if the sheets you're interested in have specific certifications. We love to see hypoallergenic sheets.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is a widely recognized certification, which means that products are free of harmful chemicals. Sheets with FSC certification indicate that the materials were sourced from forests that are managed in socially and environmentally responsible ways. And if sheets claim they're “organic,” look for a GOTS certification, as it is the certified standard for organic textiles.

Return and Warranty Policies Can Vary

I was astonished by some of the return and warranty policies of the sheets we tested. Some brands will not allow you to actually test the sheets before returning them, requiring buyers to return the sheets in the original packaging, unused.

We prioritized brands with flexible trial and return policies, which can vary from 30 days to an entire year. It may seem a little silly that sheets come with a warranty, but considering that some sheet sets cost upwards of $200 to $400, it's a nice perk to have, even if it's only for one year.

Get Deep Sleep Every Night with Our Cloud-like Soft Fluffy Duvets

Cooling sheets can help regulate your body temperature and wick away moisture as you sleep. This can lead to a more comfortable and restful night’s sleep, especially for hot sleepers and those experiencing night sweats.  In addition to promoting a more restful night’s sleep, cooling sheets can help prevent waking to discomfort caused by overheating.

What Materials Are Best For Cooling Sheets?

When shopping for cooling sheets, prioritise breathable, natural materials with strong moisture-wicking properties. Cotton is a top choice due to its breathable structure and ability to absorb moisture, which helps reduce sweat and keep you comfortable. Tencel (made from eucalyptus) and bamboo viscose are also excellent options; they’re soft, breathable, and highly effective at regulating temperature and managing moisture.

Weave matters, too. Sateen sheets have a smooth, silky feel that can offer a cooler touch, while percale sheets are crisp and lightweight, promoting better airflow. Both are excellent choices for hot sleepers.

In contrast, avoid polyester and other synthetic fabrics, which tend to trap heat and moisture, making you feel warmer during the night.

How To Clean Cooling Sheets

To extend the life of your cooling sheets, always follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions. Washing your sheets every one to two weeks helps remove:

  • Dust mites

  • Allergens

  • Body oils

Most cooling sheets are machine washable, but it’s best to use a gentle cycle with cold water and a mild detergent to protect the fibers.

For stains, spot clean with a mixture of water and vinegar or a gentle detergent before washing the entire set. Whenever possible, air dry your sheets to preserve their structure and prevent shrinkage. If you need to use a dryer, opt for a no-heat or delicate setting. Avoid dryer sheets and fabric softeners, as they can coat the fibers and reduce the sheets’ cooling effectiveness.
