Best Down Alternative Comforter: Full or Light?
Down alternative tells you what the filling replaces. It does not tell you how full the comforter is, how warm it feels or whether it will fit the cover you own.
Start with your non-negotiable: no down or feathers. Then choose the amount of warmth and fullness you want. A lightly filled quilt and a deep, enveloping duvet can both meet the first requirement while feeling very different on the bed.
Four useful shortlist routes, with a reason to pause

Start with the feel, then read the filling

Do not mistake the shell for the fill
A comforter described with a plant-based fabric name may still have a different material inside. Read both lines. Buffy's Cloud listing, for example, specifies a lyocell shell and recycled PET fill for its All Season option. That is a useful reminder that the fabric touching you and the filling doing the insulating are separate components.
A cotton duvet cover around a microfiber insert works the same way: cotton describes the outside piece, not the hidden filling. Choose the composition you want without relying on the material named most prominently in the headline.
Check the exact version's care
Do not assume all weights within a named product use the same laundry routine. On the Buffy page reviewed for this guide, All Season gives machine-wash instructions while Winter Weight specifies dry cleaning. Confirm the selected version before buying; a brand-wide care assumption would miss that difference.
