Best Bedding for Hot Sleepers That Beat the Heat

Sweating through the night makes it hard to achieve the restful sleep you need to feel your best. If you're a hot sleeper, you know this struggle all too well. No matter how many cooling products you try, it often feels like you're fighting an uphill battle. Fortunately, the right bedding can help you sleep through the night feeling cool, dry, and comfortable, without overheating, sweating, or waking up frequently. This article will help you identify the best bedding for hot sleepers so you can end the cycle of discomfort. We’ll also touch on the topic of Duvet vs Comforter to guide your choice further.

Yumerest's cloud-like fluffy duvets offer a valuable tool to help you achieve your objectives, such as sleeping through the night feeling cool, dry, and comfortable, without overheating, sweating, or constantly waking up. Unlike traditional heavy comforters, Yumerest’s fluffy duvets are ultra-light and breathable for a cloud-like sleeping experience that promotes airflow and temperature regulation.

What Bedding Material is Best for Hot Sleepers?

Overheating during sleep can significantly impact your sleep quality. It disrupts your natural sleep cycle, preventing you from getting the restorative rest your body needs. If you regularly wake up hot and sweaty at night, you may be experiencing night sweats or overheating. This issue, often linked to hormonal changes and menopause, can affect anyone, regardless of age or gender.

Bedding for Hot Sleepers

The good news? With the right bedding, you don’t have to worry about waking up drenched in a wave of sticky sweat. Whether you're experiencing menopausal hot flashes or night sweats, the best bedding for hot sleepers helps regulate your body temperature with moisture-wicking and breathable fabrics, such as:

  • Nylon

  • Lyocell

  • Bamboo

The Ideal Comforter for Deeper Sleep

Did we mention they're supremely soft, lightweight, and all-around snuggable without being too snuggly? IYKYK. When paired with a healthy sleep environment—a cool, dark, quiet room (though ambient sounds can help!), according to the Sleep Foundation—and possibly some cooling sheets, these comforters play a helpful role in promoting more deep and less fragmented sleep.

What Effect Do Different Materials Have on Hot Sleepers?

Your sheets significantly affect how comfortable you feel at night. Natural fibres like cotton, linen, and bamboo are some of the best bed sheet materials for hot sleepers. Why? Because they breathe well and manage moisture better than synthetic fabrics.

Here’s what you need to know about each:

Cotton Sheets

Cotton is a solid choice for hot sleepers because it’s naturally breathable, especially if you go for a percale weave. Percale is a type of weave that utilizes a tight, one-over-one pattern, resulting in a light and crisp fabric feel. This weave allows air to circulate easily, keeping you cooler throughout the night.

Some of our best cotton sheets for hot sleepers are our Leo washed cotton sheets. They’re soft, breathable, and designed with deep sides, so they fit snugly without slipping off.

Linen Sheets

Linen is fantastic for hot sleepers due to its loose weave and naturally hollow fibers, which allow for excellent airflow and help wick away moisture, keeping you cool even on the warmest nights.

Our Eve linen sheets are perfect for Australia’s hot and dry conditions. And these cooling sheets get softer with each wash, adding to their relaxed, airy vibe that’s just right for summer nights. Linen is also durable and eco-friendly, making it a great long-term choice for your bedding.

Silk Sheets

Silk sheets feel lush against your skin and are naturally good at regulating temperature. They stay cool to the touch and can help you avoid overheating. Just keep in mind that silk requires a bit more care when washing. If you’re looking for something that feels indulgent yet functional, try our Fleur silk range.

Bamboo Sheets

Bamboo sheets are an excellent option for hot sleepers. They’re breathable, moisture-wicking, and soft, making them comfortable even on humid nights. Bamboo is also naturally hypoallergenic, so it’s a good choice if you have allergies. Try our Kane bamboo sheets for a superb and eco-friendly option.

How Does Thread Count Affect Hot Sleepers?

Thread count gets a lot of attention, but it’s not the most important factor (especially for staying cool). High thread counts can make sheets feel dense, which isn’t great for airflow. Focus on the material and weave instead – a percale weave tends to be lighter and more breathable, which is what you want when the nights are warm.

For synthetic options, focus on cooling technologies that absorb and dissipate heat to create a more comfortable sleeping environment.

2. Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter

Rest’s Evercool Cooling Comforter is made with a unique blend of fabrics: an outer shell of nylon and spandex with a Sorona polyester and tencel lyocell fill. Nylon and lyocell are moisture-wicking, which can be a godsend for sweaty sleepers. The spandex offers a little bit of stretch, while the Sorona polyester creates a fluffy texture that doesn’t feel heavy on your body.

Reviewers say the hypoallergenic comforter feels soft and smooth against the skin, does an excellent job regulating temperatures throughout the night, and is machine-washable.

  • Materials: nylon, spandex, Sorona polyester, tencel lyocell

  • Sizes: twin/twin XL (68” x 90”), full/queen (90” x 90”), king/California king (106” x 90”)

  • Colors: 6

3. Brooklinen Lightweight Down Comforter

If you like the look of a lofty, hotel-like bed but don’t want to get sweaty, this comforter is worth considering. The Brooklinen Down Comforter comes in three weights:

  • Lightweight

  • All-Season

  • Ultra-Warm

Lightweight Comfort for Hot Sleepers

A lightweight option is recommended for hot sleepers. It’s filled with fluffy down that stays in place thanks to the baffle box construction and has a smooth cotton sateen shell. “Somehow this comforter is incredibly light and yet is incredibly warm. I’m a hot sleeper, and yet I also don’t overheat!” one reviewer shared.

Care and Pairing for Optimal Cooling

While it’s not machine-washable, it can be spot-cleaned or dry-cleaned if needed. Pair it with the brand’s smooth percale sheets and duvet cover for an extra-crisp, cool feeling all night long. If you’re allergic to or just don’t like down, the brand also has a lightweight down alternative comforter.

  • Materials: 100% Hutterite down, cotton sateen

  • Sizes: twin/twin XL (64” x 90”), full/queen (90” x 90”), king/California king (106” x 90”)

  • Colors: 1 (white)

4. Cozy Earth Bamboo Viscose Comforter

This cloud-like Cozy Earth comforter is crafted from breathable bamboo viscose, which helps wick away sweat and regulate your body temperature throughout the night. It also has built-in snap closures to keep it securely in place with a duvet cover if you use one.

Fill Options & Feel

Reviewers praise the comforter's smooth, luxurious feel. It’s available with a standard amount of fill or an extra fill, although the brand notes that the extra fill version is best suited for individuals living in cold climates. Because of this, we’d recommend the standard fill version for hot sleepers.

Care and Complementary Products

This particular comforter can’t be machine-washed, so consider grabbing the Cozy Earth Bamboo Duvet Cover to keep it protected while still keeping you cool. The brand doesn’t just make bedding; they also have bamboo pajamas that reviewers say do a great job keeping you cool and dry.

  • Materials: 100% viscose from bamboo

  • Sizes: twin (68” x 86”), full/queen (96” x 100”), king (112” x 100”)

  • Colors: 1 (white)

5. Slumber Cloud Performance Tencel Sheet Set

Most sheet sets I've tried that promise cooling technology have left me awake and sweaty at 2 am, with sticky sheets tangled around my legs. The previous cooling sheets I've tried all have a heavier weave that feels initially chilly to the touch, but still leaves me hot later on after enough heat and sweat is absorbed.

Innovative Cooling Sheet Technology

The first cooling sheet set that does not do that to me is Slumber Cloud's sheet set. These sheets are a blend of Tencel lyocell, which is a fiber that has a smooth and cooling touch to it, and Slumber Cloud's patented Outlast fiber, which uses phase change material (PCM) gel to absorb heat.

They're also a sateen weave with a four-over-one thread structure. Touching these sheets, though, I would have guessed they were a mix of lyocell and cotton with a light percale (one-over-one) weave. They're highly breathable and manage to be both soft and cool to the touch without feeling suffocating.

I woke up a little chilly sleeping on these on spring nights, a sensation I almost never feel except on my lightest cotton sheets. I'll be sleeping on Slumber Cloud's sheets every chance I get as the weather warms up.

  • Material: Tencel lyocell and Slumber Cloud's Outlast fiber with PCM (phase change material) Includes Fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases. Option to add on duvet over and two more pillowcases.

  • Size options: Twin and twin XL up to California king.

  • Mattress depth: Deep pockets (16")

  • Trial period: 60 night trial

6. Pottery Barn Belgian Flax Linen Sheet Set

These Pottery Barn linen bedsheets are the best breathable linen I've tried. While these sheets have a medium weight of 160 gsm, linen is primarily graded by weight (grams per square inch) rather than thread count; they still have a more breathable design than other linens I've tried of the same weight.

Low Thread Count for Enhanced Airflow

Pottery Barn also shared that the thread count for these sheets is 107, making them one of the lightest thread counts I've ever slept on. The slightly stiff structure of these sheets makes them feel like they're floating around my body, rather than draping close and trapping heat in. I also love that there are more than 30 colors you can choose from.

Understanding Linen's Unique Texture and Benefits

If you aren’t used to linen sheets, you might be surprised by how rough the fabric feels compared to cotton or other kinds of sheets—that’s because it’s made with flax, a rougher material. The upside is breathability, and as flax fibers are thicker than cotton, the sheets are more durable.

Linen Softness and Summer Suitability

The linen here is prewashed, but it will get softer after each wash. They're a little thinner than pricier sheet sets, but that makes them a great summer sheet rather than the thicker all-season linen sheets. Pottery Barn's set is Oeko-Tex certified, ensuring that it's free from harmful substances, and it's also made in a Fair Trade Certified factory.

  • Material: Belgian flax, produced outside of Europe. Includes fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and two pillowcases

  • Size options: Full to California king.

  • Mattress depth: Deep pockets (16")

  • Trial period: 30-day returns

7. The Citizenry Organic Stonewashed Percale Sheet Set

Percale is not my go-to when it comes to sheets. I added three sets of sateen to my wedding registry, and even though I test sheets for a living, I regularly gravitate toward my linen and bamboo sets when I'm not actively testing something new.

Breathability Comparison

When it comes to staying cool, percale is fantastic for breathability, thanks to its one-over-one thread design that allows for plenty of airflow. Other sheets, like sateen, have heavier three-over-one weaves that make them softer but less breathable, which can be a drawback in keeping you cool at night.

A Softer Take on Percale

The Citizenry already makes my favorite linen sheets, so it's no surprise I loved its brand-new percale sheets just as much. These organic cotton sheets have a 300-thread count, which makes them slightly softer than other percales I've tried, but still light enough to keep me cool all night long.

Performance and Specifications

I was impressed that these sheets didn't feel like standard percale, yet still offered all the benefits, like a lighter feel, cooler temperatures, and deeper sleep for my husband and me.

  • Material: Organic, long-staple cotton. Includes fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases

  • Size options: Full to California king

  • Mattress depth: Standard depth

  • Trial period: 30-day returns

8. Ettitude CleanBamboo Sheet Set

Linen and percale lead in breathability, but they aren't the softest cooling sheets. That's where bamboo comes in. Bamboo sheet sets are smooth and often feel akin to silk and satin sheets, but they also stay cool to the touch. Bamboo is a porous material, allowing more airflow. I’ve tried a variety of bamboo sheets, but I love the softness of Ettitude’s CleanBamboo sheets.

These are sateen sheets, which means they’re a three-over-one thread weave and have a 300 thread count, but these sheets still feel lightweight and airy, even though it's a heavier weave than I'd usually recommend.

Eco-Friendly Comfort and Husband-Approved Softness

They’re made with bamboo lyocell, which has a more eco-friendly process (it takes less energy to manufacture than bamboo viscose), and both the bamboo and the weave give these sheets a softer, cool-to-touch feel. Ettitude’s sheets hit a nice sweet spot of soft and breathable, and they're my husband's favorite since he prefers softer sheets. It's Oeko-Tex certified too.

  • Material: 100 percent organic bamboo lyocell. Includes fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases

  • Size options: Twin and twin XL up to California king

  • Mattress depth: Standard depth

  • Trial period: 60 days

9. Buffy Supima Cotton Percale Sheets

Buffy's been in the cooling game a while now, with its eucalyptus sheets and cooling comforters. While you'll usually catch the Cloud Comforter ($200) on my bed, I also love sleeping on Buffy's latest sheet addition: its first set of percale.

Softness and Value

These sheets are made from Supima percale, a certified long-fiber cotton that results in a softer sheet. And it is incredibly smooth compared to other percales. Though I'd describe these, the Citizenry set above, and Saatva's percale as a similar Goldilocks level of soft yet breathable cotton sheets. These Buffy sheets are the cheapest of the three, and often on sale.

  • Material: 100 percent Supima cotton. Includes fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases

  • Size options: Twin and twin XL up to California king

  • Mattress depth: Standard depth

  • Trial period: Seven-night trial with no charge, 50-night returns

10. Buffy Breeze Sheet Set

Who needs bamboo when you can try eucalyptus? Buffy's Breeze Sheets are made of eucalyptus lyocell, which is a more eco-friendly process than of making bamboo viscose or rayon. Buffy's sheets have a similar silky, cooling feeling to bamboo. These are heavier than Ettitude's sheets and similar to classic bamboo, but can warm up a bit at night, unlike other bamboo I've tried.

Complementary Cooling Products

These are often on sale, and we also love Buffy's comforters if you need more cooling bedding in your life. My favorite is the Cloud Comforter ($200).

  • Materials: Eucalyptus lyocell. Includes fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases

  • Size options: Twin and twin XL up to California king

  • Mattress depth: Standard depth

  • Trial period: Seven-night trial with no charge, and 50-night returns

11. Nuzzie Forever Chill Bamboo Sheets

Nuzzie's Forever Chill Bamboo Sheets are a lighter sheet than I usually find when it comes to bamboo. They're not as light as Ettitude, but they're the closest I've seen for such a low price. Nuzzie's sheets are soft and thin, but not so thin that they'll wear out quickly. They're super cool to the touch and keep me cooler than thicker bamboo sheets do throughout the night.

  • Material: 100 percent bamboo viscose. Includes fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases

  • Size options: Queen and king only

  • Mattress depth: Standard depth

  • Trial period: 30-day returns

12. Buffy Breeze Comforter

Why it’s worth it: Buffy’s Breeze Comforter is made with breathable and cooling eucalyptus lyocell, explicitly designed to alleviate night sweats and feel soft on the skin.

One customer wrote: “I sleep hot no matter what. I’ve bought toppers and cooling sheets and sleep with a fan, but none of it’s enough. The Breeze is so good! I feel weight on me, more than a sheet, and it doesn’t trap heat or get hot at all.”

Design and Care

There are loops in every corner to accommodate duvet cover ties, but if you choose to use it without a duvet cover, it can be spot-cleaned or dry-cleaned on its own.

  • Materials: Lyocell

  • Sizes: Twin/twin XL (90” x 70”), full/queen (90” x 90”), king (105” x 90”)

  • Colors: 1 (white)

13. Bedsure Queen Comforter Set

There’s no denying that temperature-regulating comforters can be pricey. If you’re looking for something highly rated and won’t break the bank, the Bedsure Queen Comforter Set clocks in at $59 and has almost 5,000 five-star reviews on Amazon; many of them from hot sleepers who appreciate its lightweight build that keeps them at a comfortable temperature throughout the night.

Versatile Dual-Sided Comfort

(These reviews are accompanied by actual words. With just stars, the number of five-star reviews ramps up to 24,000.) It’s versatile, too, with a cooling side made with nylon and polyester and a warmer side that’s just soft polyester. It also comes with two pillowcases and is available in more than 30 colors.

  • Materials: Polyester, nylon

  • Sizes: twin/twin XL (68” x 88”), full (82” x 88”), queen (88” x 88”), oversized queen (98” x 98”), king (102” x 90”), California king (104” x 96”), oversized king (120” x 98”), super king (120” x 120”)

  • Colors: 35

14. SlumberCloud Performance Cotton Comforter

It’s a tale as old as time for couples: One of you sleeps hot, and the other sleeps cold. Rather than battling over the thermostat, grab this comforter that regulates temperature to keep you both snoozing peacefully.

Expert-Endorsed Temperature Regulation

The SlumberCloud Performance Cotton Comforter—which is personally vouched for by Shelby Harris, PsyD, a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in behavioral sleep medicine—is made with an outer cotton shell and filled with a special temperature-regulating material designed to capture and store body heat, which prevents you from overheating and sweating.

Versatile Design & Easy Care

SlumberCloud Performance Cotton Comforter is thin, lightweight, and, unlike most comforters, machine-washable. It also has corner loops if you’d prefer to use it as a duvet insert. According to an FAQ section on the product page, it’s designed to be equally effective with or without a duvet cover.

  • Materials: 100% cotton, Outlast ClimaDry polyester fiberfill, polyester

  • Sizes: queen/full (90” x 98”), king/California king (108” x 98”)

  • Colors: 1 (white)

15. Cuddle Dreams Silk Comforter

Silk is another material that’s ideal for temperature regulation. It’s lightweight, breathable, and moisture-wicking, which means it’s excellent for people who get hot while sleeping. Plus, it feels luxurious and high-quality.

Real-World Performance and Care

One review of the Cuddle Dreams Silk Comforter reads: “I’m a very hot sleeper and have been using this for a few weeks now. It’s super lightweight but seems to keep my body temp just right. Whether it’s a warmer or a cooler summer night, this thing is just great.” It can be spot-cleaned or taken to a dry cleaner, but it’s too delicate to be machine-washed.

  • Materials: Silk, cotton

  • Sizes: kids (60” x 50”), twin (68” x 86”), full (76” x 86”), queen (86” x 90”), king (102” x 90”), California king (108” x 92”)

  • Colors: 1 (white)

16. Nest Bedding Washable Wool Comforter

If your primary sleep concern is overheating, wool probably isn’t the material that comes to mind first, but it’s temperature-regulating and helps prevent night sweats. Nest Bedding’s Washable Wool Comforter is crafted from natural wool and 100% cotton, featuring corner loops that make it easy to insert into a duvet cover.

It’s breathable enough when it’s hot but also cozy enough when it’s cold. It can be machine-washed and dried, although reviewers note that the latter process takes a relatively long time. Translation: Don’t start your load of laundry at 10 p.m. if you want it dry by bedtime.

  • Materials: 100% cotton, wool

  • Sizes: twin (64” x 88”), queen (86” x 90”), king (104” x 94”)

  • Colors: 1 (cream)

17. SleepNumber TrueTemp Blanket

The SleepNumber TrueTemp Blanket is filled with 37.5 Technology—a material made with volcanic minerals that help evaporate moisture and named after the ideal core body temperature (in Celsius)—and is designed to be used year-round. It’s hypoallergenic, lightweight, and incredibly soft.

“Both my spouse, who is always hot, and I (the opposite) love this blanket. It keeps each of us at our perfect temperatures,” shared one reviewer. It’s not as fluffy as many comforters, but it still has a comfortable weight. And always a welcome bonus: It can also be machine-washed.

  • Materials: Cotton, polyester, satin

  • Sizes: Full/queen (88” x 94”), king (96” x 107”)

  • Colors: 5

18. Sleep Zone's cooling mattress topper

Sleep Zone's cooling mattress topper regulates your body temperature throughout the night with Nanotex cooling technology. Treated with the same embossed process as some sports fabrics, the material is:

  • Breathable

  • Moisture-wicking

  • Fast-drying

Thanks to deep pockets and a 360-degree elastic band, the topper stays in place. Get it in seven sizes and a range of colors.

Promising Review

"I bought this replacement mattress cover because my other one kept shifting (within days of making my bed, previous covers would move and cause the sheets to get loose on the bed) and because I’ve had problems with night sweats for years. It takes care of both issues extremely well! I’ve had no problems with the sheets moving, nor have I overheated once. It seems like it’s the first one I’ve bought that I haven’t had any problems with." — Hillary L. C. (This review has been edited for length.)

19. Quince Classic Organic Percale Sheet Set - Queen

If breathability is your primary concern, opt for sheets made from a natural fiber like cotton. Within the cotton category, percale sheets are the crispest and most lightweight of all the bedding, thanks to their plain weave, and they feel the coolest to me. Percale’s matte finish also contributes to its cooling factor.

While I’m an average sleeper temperature-wise, I felt cool sleeping in these sheets during a summer heat wave with just the ceiling fan on, no AC. (In cooler months, I pair them with a comforter, and even under an extra layer of warmth, the sheets still feel cool.) Despite being truly crispy, this set is also:

  • Very smooth and pleasant to the touch

  • Durable

  • Washes well

Quince’s sheets are priced competitively at $100 for a queen set, making them my overall pick for best cooling sheets. Material: Oeko-Tex certified organic long-staple cotton percale, 270 thread count.

20. Sol Organics Percale Organic Sheets

If you prefer organic bedding from a smaller shop, these percale sheets from Sol Organics are your best bet. Like the Quince sheets above, these are made from organic long-staple cotton, but they have a slightly higher thread count of 300, making them a tad thicker.

They don’t tent up as much as the Quince sheets, but they’re still relatively crisp and cool, and I slept comfortably in them over the summer.

Durable, Sustainable, and Cooling

Trapskin appreciates the fact that cotton is not processed with harsh pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or dyes, which he says “can weaken the cotton fibers,” making these his favorite cooling sheets for hot sleepers. “These sheets are durable and sustainable from an environmental and economic perspective,” he adds.

  • Material: Organic long-staple cotton percale, 300 thread count

21. Coyuchi Organic Crinkled Percale Sheet Set - Queen

Here’s another organic-percale option that may appeal to sleepers who like the weave but would prefer something a little more lived-in. Made of a crinkled percale that has been finished with a plant-based softener, it has a slight texture to it that Strategist Senior Editor Simone Kitchens describes as “a nice progression from linen.”

Lightweight Airflow for Sweaty Sleepers

The sheets are also, according to Kitchens, who describes herself as a hot sleeper, the lightest sheets she’s slept on. “They’re lighter and thinner feeling than the Quince but not in a flimsy way,” she says, and therefore promote airflow. They’re also the ideal summer sheets, or to use all year long, if you’re a sweaty sleeper, no matter the season.

  • Material: Organic cotton percale

22. Silk and Snow Egyptian-Cotton Bedsheets - Queen

These sheets are made from 100% certified long-staple Egyptian cotton, known for its:

  • Breathability

  • Durability

  • Softness

  • Finished with a sateen weave

Sateen’s three-over-one weave is looser than percale’s and contributes to sateen’s silkier drape, but it’s also a little denser.

Egyptian Cotton Sateen for Coolness

Still, Egyptian cotton’s qualities make this set from Silk & Snow a good choice for sleepers who prefer sateen but still need bedding that feels cool. When I tested these sheets, I noticed that they were a little more lightweight than other sateen sheets made from Egyptian cotton (though they had a higher sheen) and were just as soft and silky.

Tom Ryan, head of product testing at Sleep Foundation, also likes these sheets for how well they’re constructed, in addition to their feel. “They’re going to be very lightweight and breathable,” he says, “and the durable Egyptian cotton makes them a sheet that should hold up to everyday use for several years.”

  • Material: Long-staple Egyptian cotton sateen, 300 thread count

23. LUXEAR All-Season Cooling Comforter

You can't go wrong with this all-season cooling comforter. Infused with Japanese cooling fibers on one side and breathable 100-percent cotton on the other, it'll keep you cool all year long with a straightforward flip as the seasons change.

Rave Review

"I love it… My legs run so hot, and I can't sleep. It's cool to the touch, soft, and lightweight. If I get a chance, I will buy more, not just for me but for everyone I know. ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE."

  • Cover material: Fill material

  • GSM Size options: Japanese Q-max Invista

  • Dacron Fiber: N/A Queen

24. Breescape Cooling Comforter (Queen)

According to the brand, Breescape’s BlendTek fabric is measurably cooler than cotton, rayon or silk. The proprietary formula features high thermal conductivity fibers to draw heat, a polygonal fiber structure that maximizes surface area to wick away sweat and highly porous fibers to increase airflow, which lets heat and moisture escape.

This high-tech cooling blanket comforter has two sides—one is silky and cooling, and the other is buttery soft and breathable. Our tester, Forbes Vetted Editorial Assistant Lee Cutlip, notes the comforter is so thin that it feels more like a blanket. “I’ve almost exclusively started using the ‘cool’ side, especially since it’s getting warmer out," she says.

"The silkiness is extremely cool to the touch, and remains that way all throughout the night. It’s the only piece of bedding I’ve used that I haven’t had to kick off me in the middle of the night.”

The Cooling Comforter is available in five neutral colorways. Note that the brand claims the comforter can be machine washed and dried, but Cutlip had trouble getting it completely dry in her machine, so she chose to air-dry it.

Also, consider a commercial-grade washer.

  • Fill material: Naia acetate and polyester

  • Cover material

    • Cool side: 69% nylon, 20% polyester, 11% spandex

    • Breathable side: 58% Eco-Cosy viscose, 42% nylon

  • Cooling features: Cool to the touch, breathable, moisture-wicking

  • Certifications: Oeko-Tex Standard 100, FSC, USDA-certified Biobased, OK biodegradable

25. Linenspa All-Season Down Alternative Comforter

It’s lightweight, affordable at an under $40 price point, and is easy to wash. And if I can’t convince you, take a look at the 95,000+ Amazon reviews that give this comforter for hot sleepers a perfect five-star rating. Since it’s made from polyester—a material that traps heat according to textile designer Shari Chamish—this comforter will feel warmer at some point at night, and I can confirm that. I also noticed some wear after a few washes, which is to be expected at a lower price point.

What reviewers say

“Perfect weight for the summer months,” one reviewer notes. “I was getting too warm with my down comforter but still wanted something soft, and this was the answer. It’s very light, yet still provides enough warmth.”

  • Cover Material: 100% Polyester

  • Fill Material: 100% Polyester fiber

  • Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, Oversized Queen, King, Oversized King

26. Coop Home Goods The Eden Cool+ Adjustable Pillow

With a similar feel to the best-selling Coop Home Goods Original Pillow, the Eden Cool+ Pillow features shredded memory foam infused with cooling gel to prevent overheating. The fill is completely adjustable—add or remove as much as you like so you can find the best height and level of support for you.

Safe and Washable Design

The foam is CertiPUR-US certified, so you don’t have to worry about high levels of unsafe chemicals. We love that, unlike most memory foam pillows, the entire pillow is machine washable, including both the cover and fill.

Testing notes

Testers especially appreciated the Eden pillow's soft, plush feel, which still provided ample neck support. In our lab testing, the pillow maintained its shape after weights were applied, but we did notice some wear on the cover after washing. Thousands of online reviewers on Amazon also loved this pillow, alongside our testers.

The brand has recently updated this pillow with an added gel cooling layer, which we have just begun testing.

  • Fill: Gel-infused foam pieces and microfiber clusters

  • Care: Machine washable (launder cover and fill separately)

  • Sizes: Queen and King

27. SlumberCloud UltraCool Pillow

Most cooling pillows cost over $100, but this Slumber Cloud pillow is more affordable. Made with innovative cooling technologies, our testers were impressed by the cool-to-the-touch feel of this down-alternative pillow, which is ideal for all sleeping positions, thanks to its two softness options (side sleepers should opt for the firmer style).

The cover is made with Outlast technology, which stores and releases heat to maintain a stable body temperature.

Testing notes

Testers agreed that they felt cooler when using it, with comments like, "It's so icy to lie on, and I don't feel hot when using it," and, "[This pillow] has more of a cooling effect than other cooling pillows I've tried." The polyester fill stood up very well to Lab tests, as this pillow kept its shape without snagging and washed beautifully.

One thing to note is that the blue color of the pillow is visible through some pillowcases.

  • Fill: Polyester

  • Care: Machine washable

  • Sizes: Standard and King

28. Sijo FlexCool Memory Foam Pillow

Featuring a sleek nylon-blend cover, this Sijo pillow has a chilly feel when you touch it. The pillow utilizes phase change material to absorb and release heat, maintaining a stable body temperature. The shredded foam fill, combined with a bit of added microfiber fluff, is adjustable to ensure you have the best height for optimal neck support.

Testing notes

“I just melt into the pillow while still being supported," noted one tester. Another exclaimed, “I’ve even overslept twice because this pillow is so comfy!” Calling it “the perfect combination of supportive, soft and fluffy,” testers gave it high marks for comfort, support, and temperature regulation.

Fit, Feel, and Care

The pillow fit perfectly into a pillowcase, looking great on the bed, but the cover did shrink a bit during lab wash tests.

  • Fill: Shredded memory foam and microfiber clusters

  • Care: Cover is machine washable

  • Sizes: Standard/Queen and King

29. Tempur-Pedic Breeze Pro+ Advanced Cooling Pillow

This memory foam pillow is available in two heights, and the higher height is ideal for side sleepers to maintain proper neck and spine alignment. Memory foam pillows tend to hold onto heat, but this Tempur-Pedic pick features cooling gel in the cover.

Testing notes

Testers gave high scores for its supportive feel and cooling effects, with one tester who said, "This pillow keeps me so nice and cool, plus I don't have to keep turning it or fluffing it up every time I change position." The Tempur-Pedic memory foam takes a bit longer to return to its original shape, but its signature construction forms to your head to provide ample neck support.

  • Fill: Memory foam

  • Care: Cover is machine washable

  • Sizes: Queen and King with Low and High heights

30. Pillow Cube Ice Cube Cooling Pillow

Designed specifically for side sleepers, the innovative Pillow Cube is crafted from solid memory foam and features 90-degree edges (as opposed to traditional tapered sides) for unparalleled neck support. It has also earned a Good Housekeeping Bedding Award in the past.

Testing notes

Testers described this pillow as "life-changing," and many appreciated the cover's cool-to-the-touch feel. One side sleeper reported, "It fits my shoulders, neck and head perfectly and led to good alignment, unlike other pillows I've used. I didn't have to adjust the shape at all."

Another added, "The cooling effect was what I like the most about this pillow."

The foam maintained its shape following pressure tests in our lab, but the cover showed some signs of wear after laundering.

  • Fill: Memory foam

  • Care: Cover is machine washable

  • Sizes: One size

31. Purple The Purple Pillow

While many pillows use materials like foam that are known to hold onto heat, the Purple Pillow is entirely different. It utilizes the brand's signature polymer grid for ultimate breathability, providing ideal support for back sleepers.

It has a unique shape and one tester reported, "I was surprised that I liked the pillow so much, but I had to sleep on the pillow to be convinced. I would have never bought it otherwise."

Testing notes

Testers gave exceptionally high marks for its supportive feel and cooling capabilities. One said, "I like that it molds to my body and supports my neck," while another remarked, "I LOVED the cooling aspect."

In our lab testing, the pillow’s cover was easy to launder with no shrinkage or appearance changes, but analysts note that the pillow as a whole is on the heavier side and doesn't fit perfectly in a standard-size pillowcase.

  • Fill: Polymer grid

  • Care: Only the cover is machine washable

  • Sizes: Standard

32. Sleep Number True Temp Pillow

Sleep Number’s True Temp pillow uses 37.5 technology for cooler sleep with excellent neck support from the contoured shape. The cover is made from polyethylene and polyester, with an added 37.5-infused polyester fiberfill for a plush and cool feel. 37.5 Technology stores and releases heat to maintain a stable body temperature.

Sleep Number covers a memory foam core for optimal support. The ultimate style features a curved design with three removable inserts for your ideal height, no matter your sleeping position.

Testing notes

The cover was easy to wash with no changes in appearance, but it's difficult to get the cover back on the foam afterward.

  • Fill: Memory foam

  • Care: Only the cover is machine washable

  • Sizes: Standard and King

33. Purple Harmony Pillow

Unlike any other latex pillow, this pillow from Purple features its popular "Purple Grid" polymer technology on the outside for neck and shoulder support. We washed the polymer grid cover in our lab, and it showed no signs of shrinkage or change in appearance. The latex filled quickly and returned to its shape in our Lab testing, and testers agreed when they used it at home.

Testing notes

"The best part about this pillow for me was that it relieved my neck pain," said one tester. "This pillow is much more supportive and soft while still keeping its shape." Testers appreciated the pillow's breathability, which kept them calm throughout the night.

One tester noted, "Other pillows tend to make me overheat even in the coldest nights, but this pillow kept me consistently cool."

Nevertheless, some testers did not like the feel of the unique grid material. Fill: Latex and polymer grid | Care: Only cover is machine washable | Sizes: Standard and Tall
